Word of the Day with Evan Causey

Here to help us expand our vocabulary is comedian Evan Causey. Evan grew up in the suburbs of Florida, spending most of his childhood playing video games and spending time with his beloved dog. Having been overweight most of his life he eventually maxed out at 260 pounds. Frustrated with the bullying, on his 21st birthday he committed to losing 110 pounds, switched majors from engineering to theatre, and became a stand-up comedian. He realized that when he made people laugh, he had a purpose in life other than "eating." Currently residing in LA, he is also obsessed with riding roller coasters and watching horror movies.

Today’s word of the day is “lugubrious“, which means mournful or dismal. It can also mean very sad, in an exaggerated, insincere way.

Did you know: Lugubrious is the sole surviving English offspring of Latin lugēre, meaning "to mourn." Its closest kin, luctual, an adjective meaning "sad" or "sorrowful," was put to rest centuries ago.
