Word of the Day with Mike Bain

Here to help us expand our vocabulary is comedian Mike Bain. Mike is a stand-up comedian from South Boston. He has performed at numerous Boston comedy clubs, including Giggles, Nick's Comedy Stop, The Comedy Studio, and Dick Doherty's Beantown Comedy Vault (and now Dick Doherty's Comedy Den). He has placed in the finals of the Beantown Comedy Riot and performed in the Boston Comedy Festival.

He has made a name for himself in Boston comedy and is expanding into other cities.

Today’s word of the day is "cacoëthes", which means a showy object of little use or value. - https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/caco%C3%ABthes

Did you know: cacoethes is borrowed from Latin cacoēthes, which means a "malignant tumor at an early stage, disease of character." However, the use of the word in the sense "insatiable desire" is largely dependent on an oft-quoted line by the Roman poet and satirist Juvenal, "tenet insanabile multos scribendi cacoethes" ("the incurable disease of writing takes hold of many").
